How do I set up my grounding mattress cover?

Setting up your mattress cover

  1. Fabric side down, smooth side up. The fabric-type material goes against the mattress. The smooth, leather-type surface faces up. The cover won't work upside down.
  2. Place it under a natural-fibre fitted sheet, such as cotton, linen or bamboo. Synthetic sheets can reduce the connection.
  3. Run the cord to the side of the bed nearest your wall outlet, and plug it into a grounded outlet (see How do I check my outlet is grounded?).
  4. Let your skin make contact. Bare arms or legs work best. Full-length pyjamas top and bottom will limit the connection.

Cords and adapters

You only need one grounding cord per product. The second hole in the adapter lets you connect a second product to the same outlet.

Does the cover need to reach the whole bed?

No. Grounding works through contact. As long as part of your body touches the cover, your whole body is grounded. It doesn't need to reach from neck to toes.

  • Queen beds: the cover sits close to the ends. Most people sleep centrally, so there's plenty of contact.
  • King beds and larger: the cover reaches both sleepers across the width, unless you sleep right at the outer edges.
  • Want full width? Lay the cover horizontally across the bed. The elastic straps still stretch to fit. Keep the cord on the side nearest your outlet.

Our largest mattress cover measures 54 x 70 in (137 x 180 cm).

Can I leave it plugged in?

Yes. It's designed to stay connected, so there's no need to unplug it each night. It works whether the outlet switch is on or off.
